default Floor, In Floor and Wall Safes: Which Style is Best for You?

Most people purchase a safe to protect personal valuables from fire or theft. Your circumstances, as well as personal preferences, determines your needs in what type of safe you need. There are a lot of safes out there, especially if you take into account all the small and portable safes. But when it comes to the larger home and gun safes, there are three main styles based upon where the safe is placed. Those three styles are floor, in-floor and wall safes.

When I think of wall safes, I think of TV or movies and safecracking. Such as Jennifer Garner in Alias having to steal the priceless Rambaldi artifact from the bad guy's office safe. In movies, the safe seems to usually be hidden behind a picture, like in the Thomas Crown Affair, so that may not be the best way to disguise wall safe since that would be the first place any movie goer would look.

Wall safes are usually smaller than floor safes, are not very difficult to install, and provide convenient storage for important items. Of course, if installed in dry wall, it is not very secure from burglars since they could just remove the entire safe and carry it off to open else where. If you need security and not just fire protection (which you probably want, or why would you conceal your safe in a wall? Just because its cool?) then you need to install the safe with concrete in a concrete, block or brick wall.

Floor, In Floor and Wall Safes: Which Style is Best for You?

Floor safes are the style seen a lot in local sports and general stores. These are safes that, as you can probably guess, are designed to sit on the floor. They are normally quite heavy and are bolted down, usually to the floor but often to a wall also, or two walls if the safe is placed in a corner. Both the weight and the bolts are huge deterrents to burglars. If you are not placing your floor safe on a ground floor, you will want to make sure that the floor can support the weight of the safe. The last thing you want is your safe to break through the floor and fall to the basement or apartment bellow you!

In its own weird way, an in-floor safe is a combination of floor and wall safes. You use the floor instead of the wall, and you place the safe inside of it. These types of safes often do not meet UL construction guidelines to earn a UL fire rating, but still are fairly safe against fire and burglary if installed wisely. The best place to put an in-floor safe is in the corner of your concrete basement floor. The basement because it is the lowest floor in your house. Fire rises, so the safe won't get as hot as quickly as a safe higher up in your house. This gives the extra fire protection desired and compensates for the lack of in-floor safes not meeting UL standards. The concrete is best for the same reasons wall safes are more secure in concrete - harder to carry off. And finally, in the corner because if someone does try to break into your safe, it makes it a lot more uncomfortable for the thief, it is harder to access from all sides and therefore takes longer to break into.

Floor, In Floor and Wall Safes: Which Style is Best for You?

Any of these three styles of safes is great for protecting your valuables, you just have to decide what works best for you. If you are building a home, then it is an opportune time for installing in-floor or wall safes, but these can be installed in any home at any time as long as you meet the manufactures guidelines. So don't be deterred and rule out these options. Check out all options before choosing your safe.

default Stack on Gun Safe Is This the Best Gun Safe Company?

Is a Stack On Gun Safe one of the better models to get to keep your guns secure? Owning a safe is critical to keeping your gun protected, whether it be from robbers, or your kids.

You can get a number of different kinds of safes, and one of the more popular ones is the Stack On Gun Safe. There are many different models you can get purchase with this company, so which one is the best?

Here is a review of the different models to help you make that determination. First, one of the more popular ones Stack On Gun Safes is the Vault and Safe TDS-528, and this one comes with a twenty eight gun storage capacity and two three digit combination locks.

Therefore, it's highly unlikely that the criminal will figure out the combo to both, just adding to the security level. It even has a steel plate on the lock to further protect your gun.

Additional warranty information included in packaging.

Stack on Gun Safe Is This the Best Gun Safe Company?
Another popular safe is the Stack-On ELITE 24-Gun Fire Resistant Safe and this one has very high ratings in many categories. It is very secure, it is virtually impenetrable to fire (as the name suggests), and it keeps the gun well stored with a padded interior. Therefore, you don't have to worry about your items getting dinged up inside it.

As you might expect, both of these are permanent safes, and certainly not ones you can take with you wherever you go. They are both very heavy, and you will want to either attach them to the floor or wall in order to keep it secure from criminals.

The main negative of these safes is that they don't have as much room as the company claims, but overall, I would definitely recommend either model.

Stack-On ELITE 16-Gun Fire Resistant Safe w/ Electronic Lock Stack on Gun Safe Is This the Best Gun Safe Company?

277608 med Stack on Gun Safe Is This the Best Gun Safe Company? The Stack On Gun Safes with a combo locking system comes with either a nineteen or twenty three gun storage limit, and the gun capacity is really the only difference between the two. It has three steel dead bolts, and five live action ones, giving it a total of eight different locks. This makes it virtually impenetrable.

The door is built of steel, and is extremely hard to pry open, which many criminals obviously try. It hides the safety hinges, and it comes with a key free three digit combination that is also impossible to be drilled through.

Remember, a combination code is inferior to a fingerprint sensor, which is the absolute most secure, but likewise the most expensive. The combination code they use is good enough to do the job in most instances.

Stack-on 28 Gun Convertible Gun Safe Stack on Gun Safe Is This the Best Gun Safe Company?

277606 med Stack on Gun Safe Is This the Best Gun Safe Company? The interior is completely covered with foam and carpet to protect your guns and other belongings, and it's extremely easy to install in the floor.

If you do purchase any of these models, one thing I would highly advocate is that you install them in a large bedroom closet and face them down horizontally. You then just attach them to the floor, and make sure the side with the hinges is facing the outside of the closet.

This way, it is extremely resistant to any robbers trying to break into it. Overall, regardless of which safe you get, the company is known for their high quality, and solid build.

You don't have to worry about anybody hacking or prying their way through there. I would highly recommend a Stack On Gun Safe for your needs.

Everybody Loves the Mystique of a Wall Safe

default Everybody Loves the Mystique of a Wall Safe

Who doesn't like the idea of a wall safe? They are cool and fun. As a kid I used to dream about how to make special hiding places for things, both inside and out. It wasn't very sophisticated. Usually a little box or hollowed out tube of some sort would keep me happy. Of course, hide-and-go-seek was always my favorite game. As an adult, I still have a fascination with all things clandestine and sneaky. Secret codes, hidden compartments, bugs, top secret information, listening devices, that sort of thing. I guess the appeal of a wall safe comes from the excitement of knowing something that someone else doesn't.

Sometimes a wall safe is best when it is disguised as something common, something we are all used to seeing. Valuables don't always have to be hidden behind an expensive painting or fancy moveable bookcase. Besides, most of us can't afford that anyway, and studies have shown that a thief only spends just a few minutes inside a place that they intend to steal from. I am pretty sure that looking behind bookcases and paintings is something any respectable burglar does right away.

The Safe provides a solid tamper-proof environment for your handgun while allowing immediate access when you need it most. The Safe is one of the most advanced and innovative gun storage systems on the market incorporating biometric fingerprint scanning technology for easy but tamper-proof entry.

Everybody Loves the Mystique of a Wall Safe

So, like I said, sometimes a wall safe is best when it is simple. For example, one of my favorites is those little safes that look like a common electrical outlet and wall plate. They are cheap, super easy to install, and just downright fun. I am sure that anyone that wanted to could even make one. To install one of these you just have to cut a small rectangle out of your drywall in a suitable location and stick the little wall safe inside. Now you can hide away small valuables in a place so common that a thief will not even think about looking there. I even read that in some precincts, police are finding that these tiny inexpensive units are better than an expensive locked safe!

Now I gotta admit that this little gadget is a little under dressed for some occasions. One problem is that only small items can fit. Another obvious downside is that it isn't locked, meaning that someone could accidentally access it, and last, it does not offer any fire protection. A wall safe that is more suited to protecting weapons or large amounts of cash, passports, deeds, etc., certainly needs to be locked up and offer some degree of fire protection. Alas, there is a wall safe for such purposes. These are designed to be installed in any standard 2x4 or 2x6 framed wall. They could even be built into a cabinet. On the outside these safes tend to have ways to attach things like pictures, mirrors, dart boards, or other items that would hide the safe.

Everybody Loves the Mystique of a Wall Safe

Like most things, you get what you pay for, and a wall safe is no different. Those designed to be fire proof, can be creatively concealed, have high-tech fingerprint or numeric access technology will cost a pretty penny. I would, however, definitely opt for one of these if I had handguns or other dangerous or high value items to conceal. Until then I think I'll try my hand at making something simple and fun, like a hollowed out book. Wish me luck!
