Two Companies That Specialize In Security Boxes And Wall Safes

Regardless of what you need to keep secure, you can find a safe that will work for you. Safes come in a whole range of sizes, from small chests, to knee high floor safes, to narrow wall safes, to large gun safes, to security doors to secure an entire room. Only you know what you want to keep secure in order to make the best decision for you and your family. With such a wide range of safes available there are a lot of safe manufacturer's, some who make all types of safes, and other's who specialize in niche markets. There are two companies that I came across lately that specialize in safes that protect smaller valuables, things such as small firearms, jewelry, money, medicines, coin or stamp collections, etc. Let's take a look at these two companies and what they have to offer.

V-Line has been around since the mid-1990's, and is located in Simi Valley, California. They saw a need in the home and commercial security market for small but secure, high quality safes, security cases and cabinets that were easy to access. They started with small personal sized cases and have expanded today to built in wall safes and other security cabinets. Their business goal is to provide "Quality products, extraordinary customer service, and exceptional sales and technical support."

For quick access, almost all of their security products include a 5 button mechanical lock. As the consumer, you are encouraged to reset the combination when you receive your new safe. With 5 buttons, there are 1081 possible different combinations. Your combination can use anywhere from one to all five button, but each button can only be used once.

Some of their products include security cases, small safes that are designed to mount underneath a desk surface, long gun cases, and wall safes. They offer two different sizes of wall safes, a small safe that can easily be concealed by a picture or mirror, and a larger safe that is tall, but still narrow enough to fit between wall studs. This safe is called the closet vault and is best hidden in a closet or behind a door.

Lockstate is another company that specializes in smaller security products. Their two main lines include small safes, and special digital door locks. Their different safes include cash and jewelry safes, closet and wall safes and special laptop safes. Depending upon the model of the safe, there are a couple of different lock options, from electronic to combination to biometric. Most all types come with two emergency override keys. Their safes and other security products are perfect for home use and use in the hotel and hospitality industry (i.e. - property management or vacation rentals). The wall safes are especially nice in the hospitality industry because the safes are concealed, making a quick in and out robbery more difficult.

Everybody has something that needs protection from theft or fire, whether it be cash or jewelry, collectibles, important documents or a handgun. And there are a lot of options available on the market today. Perhaps a security chest would work best for you, or maybe one of the wall safes suits your lifestyle better, but don't get caught in situation where you are looking back in regret wishing you had purchased one sooner. This is one investment that is worth it's weight in gold!

Top 7 Advantages of Wall Safes

Top 7 Advantages of Wall Safes

There are many different types of safes available on the market today. Some examples are floor safes, gun safes, wall safes, deposit safes and fire safes. They all their advantages and are designed for specific purposes. Today lets take a look at wall safes and their top 7 advantages over other types of safes.

Easy to conceal. Unlike large floor safes that scream, "I am here" and "Guess what is hidden inside?" a wall safe can be hidden behind numerous items. Things such as a picture, mirror, bookshelf, or small decoy type safes that mask as a wall outlet. Security. Being hidden, a wall safe has an obvious security advantage over other safes - people don't know where it is without spending time looking for it. The safes are also bolted to the wall, so it cannot easily be removed without accessing the bolts, and the bolts are hard to get at because the external flange gets in the way. Often, thief's like to be able to grab the safe and go, that way they can take their time opening the vault. But with wall safes this is very difficult, they must take the time to open on the premise, and a lot of time is something most thieves just don't have. Easy to Install. Though it may seem a bit intimidating, and obviously is easier to install when a house is being built, installing wall safes into an existing home is simple. Most are designed to fit between two wall studs, and come with a template. Just mark the wall according to the template, cut and install. Because of the external flange that rests on the outside of the wall, no finishing work is needed. Space saving. Lets face it, though manufactures try to make large floor safes more attractive, it is a large steel box that takes up a lot of space. Being able to hide a safe in the wall saves a lot of space. Easy to access. No bending over to open the combination, you can install the safe at any level that suits you best. Having a safe at eye level is simply easier to use. Hidden from children. A safe is a curiosity item for children. They wonder what is inside, they like to mess with the lock and play with the combination, and perhaps even talk with friends about the safe and what they have seen in it. Having a hidden safe removes a lot of these problems. Easy to deliver without the whole neighborhood knowing. If you get a large floor safe, it usually comes delivered in a special freight trucks with multiple delivery men. People in the neighborhood notice. If you are concerned about discretion, then wall safes are a great option, and not just because they can be hidden behind a picture. Because wall safes often weight less than 100 pounds, they are usually delivered by UPS, so no one knows what you are receiving.

If a majority of these advantages of wall safes appeal to you, then it may be the perfect option for your home. And remember, if you have a couple of long guns, you can get closet wall safes that are about 50" tall and will fit a few rifles.

Installing Wall Safes are Easy

Installing Wall Safes are Easy

In movies, it seems that only the wealthy have wall safes. But in today’s world, this is not so, anybody can have a wall safe for a variety of reasons. Some of these reasons include: they are extra secure since they are hidden, they are less conspicuous than other safes, they save floor space, they are easy to access, and they are easy to install. This last reason may not seem obvious to many people, but it really is not that difficult. Let’s take a look at the basic steps to install any wall safe in your home or office.

First, you have to decide where you want to install your safe. Almost all wall safes are designed to fit between the wall studs of a home based on standard building specs. Using a stud finder (the electronic kind or the type my husband likes to use: knocking and listening), locate the studs in your wall where you want to install your safe. If you are going to hang a picture or mirror in front of your safe, make sure you put the safe at a comfortable height that also looks good. A picture that looks really out of place could accidentally tip off a would be thief that something may be located behind it. Besides behind a picture or mirror, another good place is hidden in the back of a closet (the walk in kind being best for accessibility). The safe is kept hidden behind the clothes.

Next, mark the rectangle on the wall, based upon the dimensions of your safe that you will need to cut (it will say specifically in your directions what size you need). Make sure you use a level and a square, you do not really want to install your safe crooked. Once you have drawn the necessary shape, score it with an utility knife and then cut out with a drywall or keyhole saw. Please be aware of any electrical wiring!

Many wall safes will fit well between the studs, others may be a bit narrower so some wood shims may be needed to fill in any extra space. Just build up the studs till they are flush with the edges of the hole you have cut in the wall.

Next, place the safe in the wall. This is easiest to do by tilting the safe towards you and placing the bottom of the safe into the wall first. Make sure the safe is open before you install so that it is easier to access the inside of the safe. Most modern safes have a flange all the way around the face of the safe. This covers up the cut in the dry wall so that there is no finishing work, and also adds additional security to your safe, making it makes it harder for a burglar to cut the safe out of the dry wall.

Next, open the door to the safe and attach it to the studs. Screws are normally provided. Next, install any shelves that may come with the safe. Last, hang the picture or mirror that you will use to hide it. Most wall safes are flush to the wall, but some may protrude a bit. If that is the case, make sure you use a picture frame that is recessed in the back. Remember, if you use help hanging your picture, make sure it is someone you can trust!

Well, that is all it takes to install most wall safes in any home or office. So don’t be intimidated, if you are in the market for a safe and a wall safe will suit your needs best, go ahead and go for it!

How To Install A Wall Safe

How To Install A Wall Safe

<!--StartFragment-->

Purchasing a wall safe is a great investment to your home and valuables.  Every year millions of dollars in valuables are stolen or damaged in fires and purchasing a security safe is the first step to help safe guard your future in the event of a fire or burglary.  If you've decided on purchasing a wall safe, there are a few things you need to know before you install it.

Installing a wall safe should be a fairly easy job for most Do-It-Yourself'ers.  Sure you could pay a contractor to come out and spend 0+ for someone to do it for your, but we're going to show you just how easy it is to install a wall safe.

One of the reasons people choose wall safes, is that they can discreetly hide your valuables in the event of a burglary.  Burglars often look directly for security safes to see if they can crack them, or carry them out of the house.  By discreetly hiding your wall safe, you are ahead of the game when it comes to beating the odds.  Carefully decide where you want to place your wall safe.  It may be in a common wall behind a piece of art, behind a heavy dresser, under a kitchen counter, or other discreet place.  The possibilities are endless, just make sure that you have enough depth in the wall for the safe to sit in once it is mounted.  Although all wall safes are different, most models generally are 4-6" deep.

For the sake of this article we are going to assume you are using the most popular type of wall safe that mounts between common 16" studs in your wall.  The first step is to locate the studs by either knocking on the drywall to locate them, or you can buy a stud finder from a local hardware store.  These provide accurate stud locations and are cheap – in fact they generally cost less than .  Once you've located the studs, be careful to make sure there is no electrical wiring or plumbing in between the studs that you would want to avoid.

Next, use the template that came with your wall safe and trace the cutout template with a pencil.  Once you've traced it, you can use a simple drywall knife to start cutting out the hole for your safe.  Drywall knives are specifically designed for projects like this and can allow you to easily create accurate cutouts in your wall.  Always be sure to be conservative as it is easy to cut more, than to replace drywall you cut out.

Once the wall has been cut, you can place the safe in to make sure it is a good fit.  Once the wall safe fits snug and secure, use the mounting hardware or simple anchoring hardware and begin installing the anchors and screws.  If you are using anchors, you may need to mark the mounting marks with a pencil, move the safe, put in the anchors, mount the safe, and then screw in the screws.

Once you have securely mounted the safe, install the flange and make sure it has a snug fit against your wall!  Vacuum up any remaining drywall dust and your done!

Most popular wall safes can easily be installed in less than an hour by the most inexperienced of handymen.  By following these instructions, you'll be sure that your wall safe is installed correctly and provides maximum protection from theft and damage!

Wall Safes at Home

Wall Safes at Home

A wall safe is a slightly more advanced option for home security when compared to the typical in-home safe. A wall safe can be concealed inside the wall, with the opening hidden behind a painting or photograph. A more standard home safe just sits on the floor, pretty much out in the open. It's true that a safe that sits on the floor is still difficult to break into; but if a safe is hidden in the wall, burglars are not likely to know they are there which will help protect your prized possessions.

Keeping valuables stored in a bank's security deposit box offers protection but is certainly not as convenient as having them stored in your home. You have to visit the bank when it is open, and provide proof of identification. If you need something you've stored in your home safe, you can simply go to the wall safe, spin the combination or unlock with the key, and retrieve your valuables.

A wall safe provides a high level of security with the convenience of having your belongings at home. Wall safes are usually mounted permanently inside the walls, in between the studs. They can be installed when a home is being built; or afterward. If installing a wall safe after the home is already built, you will need to cut an appropriate sized hole in the wall between the studs to slide the safe inside. Measure twice, cut once! Luckily, most wall safes are easy to mount as they come with “flange”, which means you don't have to re-cover any of the walls you've cut (unless you cut the hole too large, so take very careful measurements!)

Here are some considerations for buying wall safes:

The Price of a Wall Safe

There is a wide range of prices for wall safes, mostly depending upon the materials used to create the safe, the size of the safe, or the dealer supplying them. Safes are not all created equal, and some offer higher levels of protections than others, therefore costing a bit more. Consider your budget when comparing safes, but try to keep in mind that generally, you get what you pay for. You can get a high security wall safe in the ballpark of 0 to 0.

Wall Safe Ratings

Take a look at the safety and security ratings of the wall safes you consider. Know whether or not they will protect your documents and possessions in the event of a fire and if they are waterproof from the outside.

The Size of a Wall Safe

Since the safe is to be installed between your studs, you'll want to make sure you know what the distance is between the studs in the wall you intend to install your wall safe. Most are a standard 16” apart, and most wall safes are designed to fit this width. Another consideration is the depth of the safe – and that it will fit inside your wall. Be sure to choose a wall that doesn't have electric wires or pipes running through it, or be prepared to hire professionals to help you relocated wires and pipes. A wall safe is an excellent way to keep your jewelry, money, and important paperwork safe from burglars, accidents, and fire
