Can I deduct the cost of a gun safe purchased to store my guns used in my law enforcement profession? Or do I have to depreciate it? If I must depreciate, over what period do I depreciate it?
I hope that can't

I think they will have to determine the exact need for the guns. Then would have to determine the minimium necessary need to effectively protect the weapons. Meaning you probably couldnt get away with deducting the nicest, biggest, most decorative one available. That would be overkill. But I think there is room out there for it to be considered under the, part of work deductions clause. Ask a tax guy, or check out http://www.irs.gov

yes, and you have the choice of 3,5 or 7 years depending on the cost of the safe. You can check this with any CPA.

Yes, You can make creative deuctions for almost anthing work or volunteer related. I am a K9 handler and I deduct supplies, confinement (fencing in my yard) Uniforms, dog food, vets meds…etc etc
So don’t forget your uniform laundry deductions too, I think you can deduct range time and gym memberships, but you can always ask.
Good Luck

Yes, you can but save your receipts. Also, haircuts and dry cleaning can also be deducted.

If carrying a gun is part of your job description i.e. you are a police officer or deputy, not a dispatcher, explorer, or records clerk, and you use that safe to store your duty weapon, then yes, you can absolutely deduct that safe.
