We are looking to buy a certain home, however, one wall (exterior wall) is leaning slightly outward. It's a 1000 sq ft single story house and the leaning wall is one of the longer walls. There was an addition built onto the house from the wall that is leaning so perhaps it is leaning as a result of the addition.
Can the wall be straightened out? or is it even worth it?
also is it safe to leave it the way it is?
The type of ceiling could indicate your issues.1. If you have vaulted ceilings and no collar ties. If you have vaulted ceilings and no post and beam structure. (look at the ridge line does it sag down in the middle)?
If you have a flat ceiling at wall height. the walls will not blow out like the above issues mentioned.
How much is it out? one quarter inch in 8 feet is out but not fatal. could have been the original framer.

I have a friend, who's daughter is getting ready to move into a house where there once was a methlab. Of course, ceiling tiles, wall paneling and flooring have all been replaced, and everything has been cleaned top to bottom. I just wanted to ask some Narcotics officers if they think this house is safe? They have a new baby. They also got the house for a very discounted price.
The state has strict regulations on the remedial procedures for meth labs.
That said, you're banking on a private contractor doing a thorough job. We are still informed when responding to an address which was a former meth-lab from 10 plus years ago. Things like to limit our exposure inside the property and keep our gloves on...
I wouldn't buy property that was formerly a meth lab regardless of how discounted. (There's a reason why its discounted)
Your best bet for a full answer would be to talk to the hazmat guys at your fire department.

Would you say I'm doing the right thing by having some of my savings in my home in case of an emergency? is this a good idea? I like to know I have money to hand and I've had a safe built into my bedroom wall and it's hidden behind a picture, got a long password and key entry system also.

yes, u r doing the right thing, keeping it in a safe is an even better idea, i wudnt feel safe leaving it at home in a drawer or the bank so a safe is the best!! esp behind a pic like in movies! good job! wen we went on vacation we had to take some with us and put some in the bank so no one wud take it wen we were on vacation...u never no now a days! its a crazy crazy world out there.........

The safe weighs 532 lbs. with of course added weight inside. It isn't sitting on a wall downstairs. Is this safe and will it sag my ceiling you think? My home was built in 1978.
Building codes typically specify a residential loading weight of 50 pounds per square foot. Your safe is most likely 24x30 inches or about 720 square inches. About 5 square feet, the floor is designed to support about 250 pounds, your safe weighs 2.12 times times that weight. add some hardware and several boxes of .50 cal and you could easily crack the ceiling below. Is the safe sitting above a supporting wall? If not move it.

I want to decorate my baby-to-come's room with my own cut outs and paintings but I dont wanna spoil the walls in my rented home.
Is there a glue that is wall-safe so I can make those wall-friendly type reusuable stickers for my little one?
I dont wanna buy them..they are too expensive!
I took Microsoft Clip Art and printed in on a color printer and then cutout the images. It was neat! Post-It makes a Non-permanent Glue Stick that makes things kind of like Post-It notes. I am not sure how well that would stick long term, but you could get it at an office supply store. You could also get removable poster tape (http://products3.3m.com/catalog/us/en001/office/mounting/node_GSM3MG1VQ9gs/root_GST1T4S9TCgv/vroot_GSRCJ327Z3ge/bgel_GS9YTZGKKQbl/gvel_GS262SSBYCgl/theme_us_mounting_3_0/command_AbcPageHandler/output_html).
You could probably just use old fashioned Elmer's Glue and then just wash down the walls with warm water before you moved. I would do a test one in a location behind a door or something first though!
My final suggestion would be to just go ahead and paint on the walls. You will have to repaint in white, but most landlords are okay with that!

I have a home safe that's securely built in behind a picture and locked on the wall, keep a few important documents in it but was thinking that I should keep some money there too, would you recommend this? what's the most I should keep their? hundreds? thousands? xxxx

We are wanting to open the kitchen to the living room a little more. We are needing to tear out a wall where another wall meets it in a "T". Would this be safe if it is only about a 5 foot section?
The entire wall will not be tore down, only about a 4-5 foot section of it.
Load bearing walls can go in any direction in relation to your floor or ceiling joists. If it runs along a joist and that joist is doubled it could be a load bearing. Also see what is above it. If you know who built your house and it is newer you could perhaps call the builder and get the mechanical or architectural drawings.
It is best to get some one who DOES know before you cut anything. Serious damage can occur.

i've used rawlbolts 2 of them and it feels very sturdy although i wasn't satisfied when i tightened them they didn;t seem to offer much resistance and instead just kept turning whilst making very un healthy cracking noises as in the bolts were breaking the block.... but to try and pull the safe from the wall feels very secure..... do rawlbolts become tight like a screw might or is that as tight as they get..... and have i used the best fixings for the job if someone did try to take it i wanted it to be very very difficult..... any info would be helpful thanks
Most safes give you alternative fixing points - I used both the ones in the back and the base - this makes it fairly impossible to put any direct pull in either direction. I would use very long screws and plastic rawlpugs in your situation - the expanding bolts as you have found tend to crush the cement. If you can get to the other side of the block you could use long bolts, with the heads buried in the plaster on the other side, but this will only work on internal walls.
