How to work a Winchester gun safe?
My wife got me a Winchester 24 gun safe for Christmas. I set it up and opened it to put my guns and stuff in and now I cant get the thing to close. It has a battery powered keypad and I think that it is locked and I cant unlock it to close it. I have tried 3 new batteries and it wil not even beep when I put the code in Any ideas?
What you have done is to lock it while the door is open. All you need to do is to unlock it. The safe came with an owner's manual and it will tell you exactly how to unlock it. if you follow the directions and it still doesn't unlock, you will have to call the company and ask them how to get it to unlock. The technical service number is in your owner's manual.

Tn….here’s the deal. Most electronic locks have a lockout feature. That is, if you accidentally punch the wrong code in 3 different times in 10 minutes, it will NOT allow you to enter a code for the next 30 minutes. This is a safety feature to ensure that burglars don’t try to "crack the key punch code" by entering a series of different 6 digit codes over and over again until they find the correct series. This way….after 3 attempts in a given time frame, the electronic lock says, "Sorry friends. You need a proverbial 30 minute time-out before you try again buster!"
I suggest you give the key pad a rest for about an hour. And then go back and put some fresh batteries in the thing. Then give it another 10 minute rest, just for kicks. Then try the original digital code that was given to you with your safe.
I have a Sentry brand safe and they all pretty much use the same electronic locks. If I screw-up in entering the combination 3 times in a row, it goes in a time-out mode for something like 30 minutes, whereby even if I did enter the correct code at that point, it won’t accept it because it thinks I am a bumbling burglar.

If you can’t figure it out via the manual, call the manufacturer.

I have the same safe and also have problems, but mine WON’T LOCK. No matter what combination I put in, the safe will not lock. Replaced batteries two times, reset combination as per manufacturers instructions for the type lock on my safe, the electronics beep but the safe will not lock.
